Description

I am the master of my fate
I am the captain of my soul
~Invictus, Ernest Henley

'Dauntless' is an artwork for my best friend who I have known for fifteen years.  We became much closer friends in my first year of university and since then she's been the best kind of friend I could ask for (the kind who could easily kick my ass any day).
She asked me to do a piece for her and I willingly obliged.  We sat down and she gave me a general idea of what she wanted: a piece that referenced many of the things she loved.  From Arthurian legend to Peter Pan and Doctor Who (and Superman, if you can spot it).  And with that she gave me full artistic freedom.  More freedom that I've ever had otherwise, really, and this is what I came up with.
She kindly modelled herself, haha.

This piece took a long time and went through several stages and forms, I will put up a progress at some point.  It was a huge learning curve and I loved every moment of it.
I was surprised at how the rocks and arches turned out, and I'm quite happy with it.  This was definitely pushing my level of artistic talent, and I hope I have done it justice.

Off to the right you can see one of my rocs, included after a discussion that we had.

Cheers to you all who gave me constructive criticism on the previous pieces that I posted, particularly *Umbravita, your advice on perspective is what made this piece not look all retarded in terms of angles.

ive had this sitting in my inbox for a while cus i wanted to give it the sort of comment it deserves. this really does look amazing dude. the scope of it especially. it's got such a quiet and calm atmosphere, but with all the dragons flying about and the rippling water, it still feels full of energy.
the lighting is so dang well done, i especially love the way the light falls through the fabric of the woman's dress, outlining her legs. it's just such an important and thoughtful touch.
man i don't even know what to say to fully convey to you how great this turned out. the texture of all the stone, the water, the lighting, the balance of the straight geometric architecture on one side and the wild rocky formations on the other - it's really clear you pushed yourself on this one and it paid off. it's a really really impressive painting.
