landscape 7 20-01-2013

so, one thing i notice just by looking at the thumbnail gallery of your landscapes, is that the lighting and composition is always spot on. they are impressionistic (as you'd expect from speed paints and studies and things) but the core elements are very strong. in this piece in particular, i like that you've gone from pure black to almost pure white, it adds a lot of depth, and there is just enough detail that the viewers brain can fill in the rest (actually, i'd be hesitant to add too much more detail in a forest sceen, XD ).

the only thing that looks out of place is how smooth the big, light colored root is (the place where it kinda bubbles, to the left of the canvas center) and the stray line of color that strays above the outline, and only because it's the only place in the painting where this happens. i think a few hard lines or discoloration to add a bit of texture in that area would really finalize it.

but yeah, really great, keep it up!
